Bruce Clayton retro POP ART

After tests confirmed severe colour blindness at age 30, Bruce was in deep shock and after many agonising months of not understanding it and contemplating what he had being seeing all this time bruce decided to do the opposite and started to paint! ‘using primary colours allows me to escape the chance of getting it wrong, people tell me the paints are very vibrant and well that is a true wonderment to really comprehend what they see compared to what i see’

The transition from his background in the commercial art and graphic design industry to that of fine artist has been a seamless one for bruce.

His style is Pop art with a Retro Twist. He’s fascinated with the commercial printing process; “I take great delight when people think my paintings are a poster, meaning they look mechanically made”.   He uses bold outlines Benday dots (shading in printing) hand painted dots and lines to recapture the 60’s pop art phenomenon known as POP ART.

He paints romance, war, landscapes everyday items we take for granted and really focus’s on the melodramatic content.
As an art student he won a Queensland all schools competition. This allowed Bruce to attend school based exhibitions and exclusive workshops, which further encouraged his passion in art.  Bruce excelled at school in art and has realised his dream, which has always been his underlying true inspiration in life.

From painting large canvas panel pieces, to personalising portaits, he is able to snap shot a point in time and commemorate it into colours and beauty.

“Creating portraits is a highlight; it makes people happy to see themselves depicted in art, which makes me happy.  I enjoy making a painting timeless and capturing that image forever. Pop art is not necessarily a one-dimensional style but an artisic expression of theatrics and desire creating a wave of pop-ular culture”.

Bruce’s art is represented in private collections around Australia and the world.
