Artist Statement
Connection is important; to others, a place, 'The Other' (Soltes 2005). yet a will to rebel, disengage, to be an individual is also a constant. At the extremes of needing to belong and to be connected there are rituals. These can be public, as astatement to all that witness 'I belong'. The ritual may mean to give up, to sacrifice part of or all of the self to belong to others, a place or 'The other'.
