| Review : Calling Kaiser : We Write You From The Moon : Steve Legg : 979FM Radio Program |
(Broadcaster for Melbourne Independent Radio Program 'Show us your Indies' on 979FM)
This CD opens with simple acoustic guitar strumming, yet quickly morphs into something rich and colourful. A truly independent production with the band members taking ownership over the writing, recording, mixing, production and artwork. What strikes me at first is the strength and masterful rhythms that are placed perfectly with help from drummer Josh Bell. The funk inspired guitar work also provides a quirkyness that is matched well by some very entertaining keyboard sounds. Opening track 'Time Keeper' shows the bands commercial potential to slot themselves nicely alongside the Travis and Coldplays of this world. The rest of the CD allows their sense of humour to emerge and it is then that their originalty truly shines.
Overall an impressive debut from a band happy to embrace their own organic style. |
