How to prepare for a recording session

Woolloongabba : Brisbane : Australia

For those new to recording, here are a few tips, to help keep your productivity up during a session

  1. Be 100% sure on which songs you are going to record.

  2. Have all the lyrics and music sections written out, as to avoid confusion and fist fights.

  3. Bring lots of food and drinks. (Expresso Machine, tea and water available for free at the studio) and we have cafe's and restaurants literally seconds from the studio door.

  4. Be prepared to do a lot of sitting around, waiting for each person to record their own part.

90% of the time, with a band, we will record the drums and bass first, then the guitar parts, followed by the keys and voices. Other sounds can be at any point. Don't assume that mistakes will be fixed in the mix down stage, even though it is quite possible, to a degree.
The best sound will come from the source, this being you! Take it serious, but don't forget to have a fun and relaxed recording session. Enjoy it!

Expectations are to be discussed at the start of the recording session. Reference CD's are ideal to bring in, so that the engineer/producer can have a listen with you, and discuss your ideas for the final product, and to realise what can be achieved under the budget you have chosen. Amazing things can be done in short periods of time if you, the band, are prepared and ready to go for it.

If your eager to see our new studio in person, or chat face to face with head engineer Marly Lüske, please e-mail Marly - sound@alchemix.com.au

We recommend you visit us if your looking to do a release recording. This gives us a chance to talk about how best to capture your sound, under the given timeline and budget, especially if you have any extra requirements, eg. studio musician hire, gear hire, abnormal booking times etc. The last reassurance you get when visiting us, is the fact that what you see is what you get. We are no bedroom studio, (unlike our humble beginnings in 1997), but a dual studio facility, of professional construction. We are also happy to answer any questions via e-mail and via the phone. Our contact details are to your right.
